Kurzweil 3000


What is Kurzweil 3000?

Kurzweil 3000 is a text-to-speech tool. It’s available anytime and anywhere via the Internet and from any computer running a Windows or Macintosh operating system. Kurzweil 3000 supports any web browser.

Availability

Kurzweil 3000 is available to all TC faculty, current students, and staff. Accounts can be requested and created by emailing servicedesk@tc.columbia.edu. Once the account has been created, you can open and upload documents from your computer or Google Drive to the Universal Library.

Accessibility

Accessibility testing for this product was completed on August 31, 2021. Any subsequent updates to the product or associated input devices after this date are not reflected on the current assessment.

Kurzweil 3000 is an assistive technology with functions such as screen reading, note-taking, and annotating. Some highlighted features include:

  1. 31 Natural Text-to-Speech voices in over 18 languages and dialects
  2. Read text in various formats: Word, PDF, EPUB, RTF, Daisy, and on the Web
  3. Read locked text in PDFs and images, exactly as they appear (e.g. scanned documents)
  4. Organize text into column notes
  5. Engage learners with different note-taking tools,including Sticky notes, Voice notes, highlighters and bookmarks
