IMovie

iMovie

What is iMovie?

iMovie is a video editing software application developed by Apple. Features include options to modify and enhance video color settings, crop and rotate video clips, stabilize shaky videos, add video transitions, and change the speed of clips. iMovie can also manipulate and enhance the audio of a project by reducing background noise and boosting audio levels of quiet clips.

Availability

iMovie is available through any Mac and iOS devices (iPhone and iPad). It is recommended for all TC faculty and current students as a free/low cost tool for video editing.

Accessibility

iMovie fully and partially meets most of Teacher College’s Accessibility Criteria. iMovie features numerous accessible functionalities to accommodate for the widest range of users and assistive technology.

  • OASID would like to remind users that while the application itself is accessible, users should still be aware of accessibility within their films. Specifically, color contrast, background noises, and captions.
  • While iMovie does not currently provide a feature dedicated specifically to adding captions, it is still possible to add captions to a movie using a few different styles of titles. With this feature, it is possible to adjust the font size, font color and caption positioning, transitions and timings for a movie, video or slideshow.
  • The interface of iMovie is accessible and navigible, but it requires intricate keystrokes and hotkey configurations that users may need to get used to.

If other accommodations are required, faculty members should contact TC’s OASID for assistance.
