Faculty Instructional Guide: Sharing Videos

TC Digital Media, powered by YuJa, allows faculty to record, store, and share instructional videos directly within Canvas.

Overview

There are three ways to share TC Digital Media videos in Canvas. Each method supports different instructional needs:

  • Embed the video within a page or module
Recommended and easiest option. Displays the video directly within course content, keeping it in context for students.
  • Post the video as a link
Creates a clean, clickable hyperlink. Ideal when sharing many videos.
  • Target a TCDM Course Channel
Uses the Canvas roster to display videos as a playlist. While useful for live webcasts, this method is generally not recommended because it separates videos from course content.

Embedding is best for a small number of videos and keeps learning materials in one place. If you plan to share more than five videos on a single page, consider linking instead to avoid clutter.

Embed on a Canvas Page

  1. Navigate to the Canvas page where you want the video to appear
  2. Click Edit and place your cursor in the content area
  3. Select the TCDM icon in the rich text editor toolbar
  4. Choose your video(s) using the TCDM Media Chooser, you can also “Upload a Video” or “Create a Recording” from here.
    • Use the Search box or Load More arrow if needed
  5. Click Insert Content
  6. Click Save

This method shares videos through a course-specific playlist connected to the Canvas roster. Students access content by clicking the TCDM link in the course navigation.

Note: This approach is not typically recommended because it separates videos from instructional context.

  1. In your Canvas course, click the TCDM External Tool tab in the left navigation menu.
  2. Record or upload your video to TCDM.  When finished, choose one of the following options:
  • Save – Stores the video in your Media Library only.
  • Publish – This option appears when you hover over the video card on the TCDM dashboard after saving it to your Media Library. Selecting Publish makes the video available in your course channel.

  1. On the Publish to Channels screen, locate your course under the available channels.
  2. Select your course and move it to the Selected Channels column.
  3. Click Save to complete the publishing process.
