Continuing with a great tradition, students and alumni in the International and Comparative Education Program (ICEP) have obtained more than 40 awards and distinctions this 2024-2025 academic year.

The ITS Summer Research Grant supports student-led research projects during the summer months. Eighteen ICEP scholars were selected for 2025: Issa Rooney, Charlotte Parker, Javiera Zamora Iturra, Whitney Hough, Leonardo Arevalo, Camille Fabo, Joe Kim, Victoria Jones, Jose La Rosa, Arnela Colic, Theresa Cann, Sara Pan Algarra, Julia Aronchi, Jonathan Beltran, Nina Yacher, Tsewang Chuskit, Catherine Zhang, and Gabriela Chacón.
The Carmela and Marie F. Volpe Fellowship recognizes outstanding service-oriented research placements with NGOs and educational agencies devoted to educating orphans, street children, child laborers, indigenous or other marginalized youth. This year’s fellows are Julia Aronchi and Javiera Zamora Iturra.
The George W. Perkins Memorial Scholarship honors students who demonstrate exemplary commitment and collaborative spirit within the ICEP community. Congratulations to Indra Amarjagal, Jazmin Guardado, Joe Kim, Nina Yacher, Paola Abril, and Ava Zhi.
The Martindale Scholarship supports language-focused comparative education research. Recipients this year are Issa Rooney and Tsewang Chuskit.
The Nickols Scholarship supports research related to families and communities. Arnela Colic, Sumit Karn, Victoria Jones, Hirari Sato, and Weijing (Viki) Zhang were recognized.

The Dean’s Research Grant to support her dissertation work was awarded to Kemigisha Richardson.
The Center for African Education Summer Research Grants for their fieldwork in Africa were awarded to Whitney Hough and Julia Aronchi.
The Morocco Study Abroad Grant from the Center for African Education was secured by Ahmad Araman to deepen his understanding of educational systems abroad. (More info: International Travel Grant for Study Abroad)
An International Travel Grant from the Office of Global Engagement was obtained by Kemigisha Richardson to facilitate her research collaborations overseas.
The Dissertation Fellowship from the Education Policy Social Analysis (EPSA) Department, recognizing an outstanding policy-focused dissertation proposal, was won by Whitney Hough.
The Dissertation Fellowship from the Center on History and Education to support historical inquiry into educational practices was received by Arnela Colic.
The Matilda Levy Paper Award on Environmental Sustainability,which honors the best paper by a current Teachers College student each year, was awarded to Maja Dahms.
The 2025 Emerging Scholar Award by the Center for Sustainable Futures, recognizing promising early-career researchers, was awarded to Sarah Lewis and Noa Urbach.
At the university-wide level, the Institute of Latin American (ILAS) Studies Travel Grant for pre-dissertation field research was earned by Leonardo Arevalo.
Nationally, the AAUW Doctoral International Fellowship was received by Sara Pan Algarra; the Fulbright PhD Research Award was awarded to Arnela Colic; and the NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship was secured by Kemigisha Richardson.
Our students also shone in scholarly competitions: the CIES Education in Conflict SIG Student Paper Award was received by Camille Fabo.
Finally, a postdoctoral position at Fundação Carlos Chagas in São Paulo, Brazil, was secured by Marcella Winter, where she embarks on cutting-edge education policy research.
